Lebanon and the eastern Mediterranean basin stand at the heart of a contradictory climate equation that combines exceptional and rising warmth with thunderous autumn fluctuations on the horizon. A stable, warm air mass dominates, pushing temperatures to levels above their usual seasonal levels, paving the way for spring-like weather that will last until Sunday afternoon, before the weather system suddenly breaks, giving way to a volatile depression accompanied by thunder, scattered rain, and active winds.
Heat and wind map: Warmth preceding the solstice
- Friday 9 October: A slightly cloudy atmosphere with a slight rise in temperatures and a noticeable decrease in surface humidity, in parallel with active northern winds blowing at intervals.
- Saturday 10 October: Temperature escalation continues, with partly cloudy to partly cloudy weather with high clouds, an additional jump in temperatures, a gradual rise in coastal humidity levels, and sometimes active wind speeds.
- Temperature exchange and general indicators:
- Coast: Ranging between 20 and 31°CWhile the usual average for the month of October ranges between 21 and 29°C in Beirut, and between 20 and 28°C in Tripoli.
- Over the mountains: Ranging between 12 and 28°C.
- The interior and the Bekaa: Register between 14 and 32°C (Compared to a seasonal average of 13 to 27 °C in Zahle).
- Wind and sea: Winds are northerly to easterly, active at times, with speeds ranging between 15 and 35 km/h. Humidity on the coast is between 40 and 65%. Clearance is good. Sea conditions are wavy with a stable water surface temperature of 28°C.
Sunday and Monday: the hour of collapse and the return of thunder and fog
- Sunday (peak shift): The scene changes starting in the afternoon hours; Temperatures drop to their autumn levels, and clouds gradually thicken to form dense fog enveloping the highlands. Scattered rains will fall in intensity in the afternoon, especially in the southern and interior regions, accompanied by thunderbolts and active wind gusts.
- Monday: The weather remains relatively stable to be partly cloudy without any noticeable change in temperature, with the persistence of mountain fog. Rain is limited to light morning showers concentrated in the northern regions before the weather gradually improves throughout the day.
