Avichay Adraee bids farewell to his military uniform and prepares for his new media duties

Avichay Adraee, whose name has long been associated with Israeli army statements directed to the Arab public, moves to television work after a 21-year career speaking on behalf of the army in Arabic.

In this context, journalist Gil Mashaali revealed, according to Maariv newspaper, that Adraee will join the Israeli Channel 12 to participate in its bulletins and news programs. The news organization explained that he will participate in the discussion panels as an expert in interpretive media and Arab affairs.

It is noteworthy that Adraee, who holds the rank of Colonel in the Reserves, headed the Arabic-language media department in the Israeli Army Spokesperson’s Unit, and for more than two decades he was one of the most prominent military media faces addressing the Arab public.

During recent months, the duties of the official spokesman were transferred to Lieutenant Colonel Ella Wawiyah, known as “Captain Ella,” while Adraee continued his work as the unit’s advisor for Arab and Middle Eastern affairs after the end of his official duties.

This move is the first media position that Adraee has held since leaving his military post, and its announcement comes after a press interview in which he criticized the management of the Israeli media discourse, pointing out its lack of a central body responsible for coordinating efforts and securing the necessary funding and direction. At that time, he said: “We are still improvising, and it seems like one big improvisation.”
