Logistical and technical preparations for the re-operation of President Rene Mouawad Airport in Klayaat have entered their final operational stage, in preparation for the launch of commercial flights from it during the month of February next, in light of an official confirmation of commitment to the highest standards of quality and security.
In this context, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam chaired a high-level meeting in the government palace to follow up on the progress of work, which included the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamni, the head of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority, Captain Muhammad Aziz, the advisor to the Minister of Works, lawyer Hadi Moussa, and the head of the airport security service, Brigadier General Fadi Kfoury. The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of the Beirut International Airport Corporation, Engineer Muhammad Shatila, Muhammad Al-Hajj Shehadeh, the General Director of Roads and Buildings, Engineer Pierre Maalouf, and a member of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority, Dr. Rabie Al-Khatib, in addition to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Sky Lounge Services” Company, Ziad Al-Manla, and Engineer Kamal Nasr Al-Din.
During the meeting, Salam stressed that the airport restart project has become a practical process that has been completed in its final stages, calling for the remaining steps to be completed as quickly as possible and without any compromise on technical and security conditions. He stressed that this step has strategic dimensions that contribute to achieving balanced development and revitalizing economic activity in Akkar Governorate and the northern region, as well as strengthening the infrastructure of the transportation sector in Lebanon.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister received at the Grand Serail the new German Ambassador to Lebanon, Thomas Tsannaisen, on a protocol visit on the occasion of his assuming his diplomatic duties. The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries and ways to enhance them, in addition to the latest political developments and developments on the local and regional arenas.
