The competitions of the second edition of the Lebanese Cedars Golf Championship, hosted by Al Zorah Golf Club in Ajman, concluded from 2 to 4 October this year, organized by the Lebanese Golf Federation and in cooperation with the Emirates Golf Federation. The tournament witnessed a wide participation of 66 amateur players, male and female, representing more than 19 nationalities, amid strong competition over three consecutive rounds.
At the conclusion of the competitions, Alexander Rushka, the UAE national team player, won the men’s title after topping the standings with a score of 3 under par (-3), while Indian Anuradha Choudhury won the women’s title with the same score (-3). In the men’s category, American Oscar Craig came in second place with a score of (+1), while Lebanese Sarah Salam achieved first place in the women’s category (net) with a score of (+1), and British Imogen Hall came in third place with a score of (+4). In the junior category, Italian Lugino Ghalini won first place, Inca Matteo came second, while Italian Picardo Benaco came in third.
The coronation ceremony witnessed the presence of Major General Pilot “M” Abdullah Al-Sayed Al-Hashemi, President of the Emirates Golf Federation, and Karim Salam, President of the Lebanese Golf Federation, along with the Lebanese Ambassador to the country Tariq Mneimneh, Consul General Penilla Abdullah, Maher Baydoun, Vice President of the Lebanese Federation, and Akram Skaik, Director-General of the UAE Federation. Members of the Lebanese Federation’s Board of Directors also attended: Sheikh Musa Al-Zein, Abdul Rahman Al-Hout, and Monther Jojo, and from Al-Zawraa Club in Ajman, General Manager Andrew Braisier, his deputy Philip Henry, Anna Melino, and a number of officials, players and parents. Cups and medals were distributed to the winners, in addition to presenting souvenir shields to the Emirates Golf Association and Al Zorah Golf Club.
Karim Salam expressed his great happiness with the success achieved by the tournament, thanking the UAE Federation and the management of Al-Zawraa Club for their support and cooperation. He pointed out that holding the tournament in a country other than the country that founded it represents the first experience of its kind and a distinguished model of sports cooperation, praising the role of the wise leadership in the Emirates and its continuous support for sporting events. He also thanked His Excellency Sheikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, former President of the Emirates Golf Federation and current Honorary President, for his support for the first edition, and to Major General Pilot “M” Abdullah Al Sayed Al Hashemi for continuing the process of support and success.
For his part, Major General Pilot “M” Abdullah Al-Sayyed Al-Hashemi praised the great success of the tournament and the high technical levels presented by the participants, stressing that these results are the result of joint efforts between various parties. Al Hashemi congratulated the winners of the first places, stressing the UAE Federation’s keenness to strengthen the partnership with the Lebanese Federation, and declaring the country’s readiness to host the next edition and provide all the elements for its success, praising at the same time the wide participation of both genders, which strengthened the international character of the tournament.
