French striker Kylian Mbappe responded with overwhelming sarcasm, on Monday, to reports of tensions and anger between him and his club, Real Madrid, and his former coach Zinedine Zidane, against the backdrop of their lack of support for him in the race to win the Ballon d’Or.
The “La Tribu” program, presented by journalist Raul Varela on Radio Marca, sparked widespread controversy with discussions presented by journalist Javier Tinto, which linked Mbappe’s behavior in the recent “Madrid derby” match to alleged reasons related to the club and former French star Zinedine Zidane’s refusal to fulfill his request.
Tinto claimed during the program that Mbappe asked Real Madrid to launch an official campaign to support him in the Ballon d’Or race during the week before the derby, but the Royal Club management refused to respond to the request. The Spanish journalist went so far as to link this rejection to the player’s performance and behavior on the field during the match, considering that his anger was reflected in the way he played and behaved on the field in light of the team’s circumstances.
The same reports added that Mbappé sent a similar request to Zinedine Zidane to obtain his support for winning the award, but the former Real Madrid coach was unable to provide support in light of strong competition from his French compatriot Ousmane Dembélé. The report also warned of the player entering into a potential power struggle with the club, noting the possibility of fans becoming angry if they felt his individual ambitions were being put before the team’s interests.
In a quick interaction, Mbappe did not delay in responding to these allegations, as he commented in a sarcastic manner on the “Radio Marca” account on the “Instagram” platform, writing: “Yes, yes, I even got angry with my great aunt as well.”
