Contracted professors at the Lebanese University and candidates for full-time positions carried out a sit-in today in front of the Ministry of Education, in protest against the continued procrastination in approving their full-time file, especially after the Council of Ministers initially approved the numbers of those eligible and dividing them into batches, without the final determination of the names.
This protest movement comes at a sensitive time, coinciding with the approaching end of the deadline granted by the Council of Ministers to the Minister of Education to study the names and submit the file again to the Council, which ends next Thursday, in line with the date of the Council of Ministers session, which puts this strategic file before the test of inclusion on the agenda.
In the same context, a member of the follow-up committee for professors, Dr. Mohamed Shukr, revealed the readiness of professors to organize a massive sit-in in conjunction with the next Cabinet session, either in front of the Government Palace or on Baabda Road, with the location of the demonstration being determined immediately upon announcing the location of the official session.
Shukr explained that attention is turning to the agenda of the upcoming session to monitor whether the sabbatical file will gain a place among the research items, recalling that the monthly deadline given to the Minister of Education to conduct a comprehensive study of the names will be closed on Thursday.
Shukr warned that any decline in not including the file on the agenda would be met with immediate escalatory steps, stressing that the follow-up committee is conducting intensive contacts with the concerned authorities to find out the latest developments in studying the names and the path of the file.
Shukr concluded by stressing the need for the government to adhere to the decisions it had previously taken, and the need to resolve this vital issue within the specified time limits, in order to put an end to the state of suspension and long waiting that professors are suffering from.
