Counterfeit goods "Made in Russia" Moscow's exports to the Chinese market are besieged

Russian companies exporting to the Chinese market are facing an escalating crisis due to the spread of counterfeit products marketed as Russian-made, when they were manufactured locally in China or in other countries. This situation has undermined consumer confidence and seriously damaged sales of original products.

Russian goods witnessed a wide demand and a noticeable boom in the Chinese market during the year 2024, accompanied by a wide spread of Russian-style stores specializing in selling chocolate, honey, meat, and drinks. However, media investigations and official inspections later proved the false origin of some of these products, which sparked a wave of decline in sales and the closure of many of these stores.

In this context, the representative of the Russian Export Center in China, Yevgeny Bazov, acknowledged that the random expansion of stores using the Russian identity has caused widespread confusion among consumers and caused direct harm to real exporters, announcing ongoing efforts to establish reliable sales channels that guarantee consumers verification of the true origin of the products.

Russian companies are currently intensifying their efforts to restore the confidence of the Chinese consumer, in conjunction with calls made by economic experts stressing the necessity of proactive registration of trademarks in the Chinese market, and activating strict supervision on e-commerce platforms to confront counterfeit goods and protect the rights of original manufacturers.
