The curtain came down on the crisis of accepting Lebanese school credentials in Egyptian universities, following intense official contacts between the two sides that led to allowing the registration of Lebanese students holding these credentials, which was issued exceptionally due to the cancellation of official exams in Lebanon, ensuring that they would not lose their university year.
In detail, the media office of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education explained in a statement that the Ministry followed up on the issue to ensure that the students’ academic progress would not falter due to the exceptional circumstances that accompanied the academic season.
The crisis began, according to the Lebanese embassy in Cairo, about 15 days ago after receiving complaints from students who had begun the registration procedures in Egyptian universities before they were confronted with the rejection of their school certificates. Subsequently, the ambassador made extensive contacts with the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities – headed by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research – and with the Central Administration for International Student Affairs, to explain the circumstances of canceling official exams and adopting testimonies instead.
The embassy indicated that the Egyptian side showed great understanding of the situation, especially in light of the threat of students losing their academic year and the accompanying financial burdens incurred by families to secure transportation and housing in Egypt. These efforts culminated in an agreement to accept student registration in accordance with the law.
For its part, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education stressed its continued coordination with the concerned Lebanese and Egyptian authorities to protect the rights of students and ensure the regularity of their educational journey, stressing the continuation of work to address any problems related to the documents issued by it within the approved legal frameworks.
