Saudi warplanes control Yemen's airspace by deploying 100 fighters

The coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, announced the participation of 100 fighter aircraft at dawn on Monday, October 5, 2026, in launching a large military operation called “Yemen’s Dawn,” in support of the Yemeni government forces.

The coalition explained that it provides air cover and continuous support to the Yemeni armed forces around the clock, noting its success in destroying 324 high-value targets in conjunction with the launch of operations, in addition to securing air navigation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait region, while continuing field dealing with moving targets.

These developments coincided with the announcement by the head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, of the launch of the military operation “Yemen Dawn” with the aim of ending the Houthi group’s control over various areas of the country. Al-Alimi said in a blog post on the “X” platform: “Operation Yemen Dawn was launched to restore state institutions, liberate the capital, Sana’a, and end the Houthi group’s coup.”

In the field context, Yemeni military sources confirmed that government forces had begun a massive attack to restore areas under the group’s control, recording notable progress near the Bab al-Mandab region in the southwest of the country. Local sources reported to Sky News Arabia that government forces are making field progress in the vicinity of Dhubab Military Airport, west of Taiz Governorate, amid the outbreak of violent confrontations with members of the Houthi group.
