Demands from the Union of Bakeries and Bakeries to extend the deadline for regularizing the status of foreign workers

The Federation of Ovens and Bakeries Unions in Lebanon confirmed, in a statement, that the meeting held last week between representatives of the federation and the Minister of Labor, Dr. Mohamed Haidar, represented a positive milestone to confirm the importance of dialogue and cooperation in addressing issues related to the sector and its workers.

The Union expressed its appreciation for the Minister’s openness, responsiveness, and keenness to keep the Ministry’s doors open to sector representatives to listen to their demands, and appreciated his method of managing labor files during this stage.

The Union appreciated the Minister’s understanding of his request related to extending the deadline for regularizing the status of foreign workers, and promised to study the reasons for this, especially since the previous deadline expired at the end of last month, amid the institutions’ need for an additional period to correct their legal and regulatory status.

The Union hoped that Minister Haider would respond to this demand, stressing the necessity of continuing open channels of dialogue to discuss additional files in coordination with the Ministry of Labor and the General Directorate of Public Security, taking into account the specificity of the bakery sector and the working conditions in it.

The Union concluded by reiterating that cooperation between all concerned parties remains the basic foundation for reaching balanced solutions that preserve the rights of the state, institutions, and workers, and ensure the stability and continuity of work in the bakery and ovens sector.
