On Friday, Manchester City filed a formal and comprehensive appeal against a decision issued by an independent committee affiliated with the English Premier League, against the backdrop of the disciplinary matter related to alleged violations in the competition.
The club confirmed in its statement that its decision comes based on a firm conviction that the issued decision “contains clear fundamental errors related to the law, principles and facts, and is not reliable.” The statement stressed the club’s complete innocence of the charges against it, stressing the existence of “a large body of irrefutable evidence that supports all of its positions in this case.”
For its part, the English Premier League announced that the club had submitted an appeal to the Chairman of the Judicial Committee, indicating that the hearing would remain private and confidential until the result was officially allowed to be published.
The appeal is scheduled to be decided by an independent appeals committee consisting of three members appointed by the head of the league’s judicial committee. Under the new regulations for expedited procedures, the hearing must be held within 12 weeks from the date of filing the appeal, with the final decision issued within 30 days of the end of the hearings.
This escalation comes after Manchester City expressed, on Wednesday, its surprise and disappointment at the opinion of the league’s committee. In the same context, the Chairman of the Club’s Board of Directors, Khaldoun Al-Mubarak, in a letter addressed to the team’s fans, affirmed the administration’s full confidence in its legal position, stressing that the process of the case is still long and that the club’s commitment to proving its innocence remains firm and unchanged.
