The draw for the playoff qualifying round for the first world group of the Davis Cup Tennis Competition, which was drawn at the headquarters of the International Federation in the British capital, London, resulted in an anticipated confrontation between the Lebanese national team and its Kazakh counterpart, during the period from 6 to 8 February next on the territory of the Kazakh team.
This confrontation carries great strategic importance for both teams, as it will determine the identity of the victor who qualifies directly to the elite group (the first world group), at a time when the Lebanese national team seeks to enhance its global presence and continue its progress among the ranks of the top international teams.
The Lebanese team, ranked 48th in the world, had reserved its place in this round after its well-deserved victory over its Syrian counterpart with a score of (4-0) in the confrontation that brought them together in Tunisia. On the other hand, the Kazakh national team, ranked 42nd in the world, qualified after defeating its Taiwanese (Thai) counterpart with a score of (3-2) at home about two weeks ago.
The confrontation is considered an extremely tough physical and technical test for the two teams in light of the close technical levels, with a slight discrepancy that gives the advantage of the ground and the audience to the Kazakh team, which puts the Lebanese technical staff before a major challenge that requires intense preparations.
In this context, the Lebanese Tennis Federation began the workshop of early preparations for this fateful entitlement, amidst overwhelming ambitions to achieve a historic achievement outside the country and snatch a pass to the elite group, which embodies the remarkable development and successive successes achieved by the tennis sector in Lebanon on the international level.
