US President Donald Trump admitted, during an event held at the White House on the occasion of “Hispanic Heritage Month,” that his performance in explaining his economic record “was very poor,” at a time when his approval rating is witnessing a noticeable decline under the weight of rising gasoline prices, ahead of the midterm elections scheduled for November.
Trump pointed out to a crowd of his supporters that the ruling party usually loses seats in Congress during the first elections following the presidential elections, urging them to actively participate in voting by saying: “We have to change this situation.”
This comes at a time when many American voters give the president low ratings in public opinion polls, due to his management of the economy, which was damaged as a result of the policies of imposing tariffs and the war on Iran, two factors that led to a sharp rise in energy prices.
In a related context, there is a feeling of pessimism among consumers regarding the labor market, despite the acceleration in job growth in August following a slow period that the market witnessed during most of the summer, in addition to the rise in house prices, which doubled the economic pressures resulting from the increase in mortgage rates.
On the field level, Trump heads today to the states of Texas and Oklahoma, and will continue his tour by visiting Alabama on Friday, and Ohio on Saturday.
