Fourteen people were killed, Monday, as a result of a massive fire that broke out in a fireworks factory in the Russian region of Yaroslavl, according to TASS, citing emergency services, while one person is still undergoing treatment in the hospital after rescue teams were able to control and extinguish the fire.
The fire swept through two buildings in the village of Kobrinsk, located near the town of Pereslavl-Zalessky, prompting the concerned authorities to send about 200 members of the emergency teams to participate in relief efforts and deal with the disaster.
For his part, the governor of the region, Mikhail Evrayev, announced that 10 people had been killed, explaining that search and rescue operations were still continuing around the clock to search for potential victims under the rubble.
In the same context, the Russian authorities opened a criminal investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident, amid suspicions of serious violations of industrial safety rules inside the facility, according to what was reported by TASS.
