Kanaan discusses reforms with the French envoy Ben "Gap law" And the conditions of the IMF

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, discussed with the French President’s envoy for economic affairs, Jacques de Lagouy, the path of financial reforms and related legislation, during his reception in the Parliament in the presence of the Head of the Economic Department at the French Embassy, ​​Jean-Baptiste Cheval, and an accompanying delegation from the Embassy.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the most prominent reform files, especially the financial legislation recently approved by the House of Representatives, most notably the contentment of banking secrecy and bank reform, as well as the latest developments in the “Financial Gap Law” project, which is currently undergoing extensive review and coordination between the International Monetary Fund, the Ministry of Finance, and the Bank of Lebanon.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Representative Kanaan thanked the French envoy for his continued interest, praising the support provided by France and its President to Lebanon, and stressing the commitment to continuing cooperation during the next phase to reach a practical and applicable agreement with the International Monetary Fund, in a form that guarantees the protection of depositors’ rights and contributes to restoring confidence in the financial and economic sector in Lebanon.
