Beirut – The head of the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission and its Commander-in-Chief, Major General Deodato Abbagnaara, today provided a comprehensive briefing to representatives of the countries participating in the international force in the capital, Beirut, focusing on the latest field developments in southern Lebanon.
The briefing dealt with the nature of the tasks carried out by UNIFIL in the region, based on its mandate specified in accordance with International Resolution 1701, which represents the framework regulating the work of the international force in the south of the country.
Major General Abaniara also touched on the ongoing efforts made by UNIFIL to support the Lebanese Army, in addition to supporting local communities in its areas of operations in southern Lebanon.
This step falls within the regular communication channels between UNIFIL leadership and representatives of troop-contributing countries, in light of the continuation of peacekeeping missions and existing field cooperation in the region.
