The Lebanese University is heading toward semi-paralysis following the announcement by the Executive Board of the Association of Full-Time Professors to stop work in all university units and branches on Tuesday and Wednesday, corresponding to September 29 and 30, 2026, in protest against the continued delay in approving the file for full-time contract professors.
This difficult decision came as a culmination of a meeting held by the Commission on September 26, which was devoted to discussing a number of urgent files, led by the sabbatical file, which the Commission described as having gone beyond the stage of labor demands to become an “urgent national and academic entitlement,” in addition to being a basic need for the continuation of the institution and a legitimate right for professors who meet the academic and legal requirements.
In its statement, the authority warned that the continued procrastination in approving the file keeps a large segment of professors hostage to “injustice and job instability,” which reflects negatively on the ability of the national edifice to fulfill its mission in the higher education sector.
In this context, the Authority stressed the necessity of completing the full-time file based on standards of competence and actual need and amid absolute transparency, to prevent any random or discretionary employment, and to ensure the preservation of national balance and the rules of coexistence.
The Association concluded its statement by issuing an urgent invitation to all concerned parties, urging them to take practical and serious steps to remove the obstacles that hinder the approval of the file and its immediate implementation.
