After his sudden resignation… the resigned French Prime Minister: My mission is over

Resigned French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said on Wednesday that conditions had become ripe for President Emmanuel Macron to appoint a new head of government within the next 48 hours.
On the other hand, Le Cornu stressed that “the time is not right to change the president,” in light of the escalation of calls within French political circles demanding Macron’s resignation.
He said during an interview with France 2 public television station, “I told the President of the Republic that the possibility of dissolving Parliament has dissipated, and I consider that the situation allows the President to appoint a prime minister within the next 48 hours,” stressing that his mission “has ended.”
Lecornu’s words, whose sudden resignation on Monday, only 14 hours after the unveiling of his government’s composition, deepened the political crisis in France, after intense deliberations that lasted two days in an attempt to get out of the impasse and avoid a new solution for the National Assembly.
He pointed out that the majority of parties do not want to dissolve the National Assembly and call for new elections, as he found out at the conclusion of the recent consultations he conducted with various parties in an effort to get the country out of the political crisis.
Locorno stressed that he “tried the impossible” to find a consensus to rule the country, stressing that “the team that will assume responsibilities must be completely far from any presidential ambition in 2027.”
