The National Economy, Industry, Trade and Planning Parliamentary Committee held a meeting headed by Representative Farid Al-Bustani, devoted to discussing the reality of the profession of mediation and representation in the insurance sector, in the presence of representatives of the sector. The committee is scheduled to continue listening to various opinions and viewpoints during its meeting scheduled to be held next week.
In this context, Al-Bustani explained that the committee recommended holding a specialized workshop to study the law regulating the sector, in order to determine the extent of the need to introduce amendments to it or prepare new legislation, stressing that the primary goal is to develop existing laws in a way that achieves the interests of citizens and supports the sector.
On the other hand, the meeting touched on the issue of inflation and rising prices. Al-Bustani indicated the possibility of taking steps at the local level, in addition to confronting the influential global factors, announcing the follow-up of this sensitive file directly with the Minister of Economy and Trade.
The Chairman of the Committee stressed the need to expedite the adoption of the Consumer Protection Law and implement deterrent financial fines against violators, especially with regard to the private electric generator sectors, supermarkets, and the fuel sector.
Regarding the prices of petroleum derivatives, Al-Bustani issued an explicit call to the Ministry of Energy and the Prime Minister to work to reduce the taxes and fees imposed on gasoline, considering that reducing the cost of fuel has become an urgent necessity to reduce the worsening living burdens and protect the purchasing power of citizens.
