Within the framework of tightening oversight over the private electric generator sector and reducing violations against subscribers, the Department of Economy and Trade in the South expanded the scope of its oversight campaign to include a number of regions, recording a series of violations of the approved official tariff per kilowatt.
The Authority carried out field monitoring work in cooperation and coordination with the General Directorate of State Security and the Internal Security Forces, and with a judicial reference from the Public Prosecutor in the South, Judge Zaher Hamada, with the aim of verifying the generator owners’ compliance with the specified official pricing.
The campaign resulted in the organization of 14 arrest reports against the owners of generators who were proven not to comply with the official tariff, in addition to opening judicial reports against all violators and summoning them to take the necessary legal measures against them.
The observation tours included large squares within the areas of: Haret Saida, Saida, Al-Baramiya, Al-Filat, Al-Qayaa, Majdelyoun, Badiyas, Toura, Burj Rahal, Joya, and Batoulet.
The Department of Economy and Trade in the South confirmed its continued follow-up of this vital file and the strict application of the official tariff, to prevent the collection of any additional amounts and to preserve the rights of subscribers.
These campaigns are of great importance in light of the widespread dependence of citizens on private generators to secure electricity, which makes monitoring bills and adhering to pricing an essential pillar of consumer protection and preventing them from being burdened with additional financial burdens.
