Secrets of depositors' deposits: an official reference that reveals the secrets of banking circulars

An official economic authority strongly criticized the financial policies followed by the government and the Bank of Lebanon, considering that they have not yet presented anything new in the financial reform file and dealing with the file of returning depositors’ money.

In an official meeting that included a limited number of invitees, the authority pointed out that Circulars (158) and (166) issued by the Bank of Lebanon have remained as they have been for years without any amendment or development by the current administration, and in a manner commensurate with the economic reality and purchasing power of citizens. He explained that the amounts allocated under these two circulars were of a better value when they were launched compared to the current situation, amid the wave of widespread high prices that affected the sectors of fuel, foodstuffs, school tuition, and other daily living requirements.

The source concluded his statements by stressing that “nothing has changed so far,” calling on the concerned authorities to find radical solutions and abandon old solutions that are no longer useful.
