The social media platforms “Facebook” and “Instagram”, affiliated with the “Meta” company, suffered a sudden technical malfunction on Sunday/Monday night, which led to them stopping for a wide range of users in several countries, amid widespread complaints about the difficulty of accessing the two platforms and the disruption of some of their services.
In the same context, the Down Detector website, which specializes in monitoring Internet service malfunctions, reported that thousands of malfunction reports had been recorded in the United States, in conjunction with monitoring similar complaints from users in a number of Arab countries, including Egypt.
The site, which relies on collecting user reports from multiple sources in its tracking, explained that it monitored more than 17,000 reports regarding Facebook’s downtime, and more than 5,000 reports related to the “Instagram” platform.
On the other hand, the site indicated that the recorded numbers are based on individual reports sent by users, which means that the actual number of people affected by this malfunction may vary.
