Commercial traffic in the Port of Beirut has witnessed a noticeable decline recently, in light of the repercussions of the stifling economic crisis that Lebanon is suffering from and the continuation of the Israeli war, which has re-shed light on the reality of the public facility and its vital importance.
Sources following up on the port’s affairs reported that commercial activity appears to be light at several times, despite the high financial returns that the port provides to the state treasury and customs, stressing that the current volume of work has become in dire need of actual revival.
The sources explained that the decline in shipping traffic is not limited to the facility alone, but rather extends to the entire economic and commercial activity in the Lebanese markets, given that the port is considered one of the most prominent main import and trade gateways in the country.
In this context, the sources indicated that the Israeli war on Lebanon contributed directly to affecting the workflow and commercial activity in the port, which requires serious action that places the facility at the top of the priorities in the next stage, and the development of practical steps that establish a new phase aimed at reviving commercial activity and restoring the usual levels of activity.
