A research team in the United States has developed a smart ring to monitor biochemical indicators daily, by analyzing several components present in sweat continuously and at the same time.








Unlike traditional smart rings that focus on physiological measurements, the technology developed by engineers at the University of California, San Diego, allows monitoring of glucose, ketones, vitamin C, uric acid, lactate, and alcohol, providing a continuous picture of health status, according to “Nature Communications” magazine.

The ring works without user intervention, as it absorbs sweat through the skin using an osmotic hydrogel, before a network of electrochemical sensors analyzes its components and transmits the results to an application on the smartphone.

These measurements help determine individual calibration factors and monitor the development of vital signs, which may support better health, nutrition and lifestyle decisions.

Continuous monitoring of glucose and ketones can also contribute to improving insulin doses in diabetics.
