Google announced that Android 17 allows the application to be granted temporary access to the precise location, instead of allowing it to know the user’s location on an ongoing basis. It is also possible to allow the application to access specific contacts instead of sharing the entire address book.
The advice here is not to grant any application permanent access to the site except when its function actually requires it. A maps application, for example, may need an accurate location while navigating, while many applications do not need to constantly know the user’s location.
Also, Google added to “Chrome” on Android the option to share the approximate location with websites instead of the exact location. The approximate location can be used to get weather or local news, while the precise location is still useful for services such as navigation or locating the nearest delivery point.
Therefore, it is useful to review the permissions of applications and websites periodically, and choose the lowest possible level of access to personal data.
