“France Football” magazine announced the list of nominees for the Best Goalkeeper in the World award, within the 2026 Ballon d’Or awards, which witnessed a prominent presence by Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou.

The list of candidates included 10 goalkeepers, led by Bono, the star of Al Hilal Saudi Arabia and the Moroccan national team, along with the Belgian Thibaut Courtois, the Real Madrid goalkeeper, the Spanish Juan Garcia, the Barcelona player, the Swiss Gregor Koppel, the Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper, and the Argentine Emiliano Martinez, the Chelsea goalkeeper.

The list also included the Senegalese Edouard Mendy, the Saudi Al-Ahly goalkeeper, the Spanish David Raya, the Arsenal goalkeeper, the Russian Matvey Safonov, the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, and the Spanish Unai Simon, the Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper, in addition to Cape Verdean goalkeeper Fosinha, the Colo-Colo player.

The 2026 edition is of particular importance, in light of the strong competition witnessed last season at various levels, starting with local championships and the Champions League, all the way to the 2026 World Cup, which makes the Ballon d’Or award race even more exciting.

On the women’s level, the list of candidates for the Best Goalkeeper Award witnessed a prominent presence of Barcelona goalkeeper Kata Cole, along with Anne-Katrin Berger (Gotham), Hannah Hampton (Chelsea), Lorena (Kansas City) and Ayaka Yamashita (Manchester City).

It is expected that the winners will be announced during the Golden Ball ceremony in London on Monday, October 26, after evaluating individual performance and collective achievements during the period approved for the awards. (Russia Today)
