John Ternos will launch his first major event as CEO of Apple, tomorrow, Wednesday, as he looks forward to making a qualitative shift in the smartphone market by introducing the first foldable iPhone at a price exceeding $2,000.

This pivotal launch, which took about eight years to develop, comes at a sensitive stage in which the company faces saturation in phone sales and a rise in supply chain costs, which puts Apple’s current strategy on price and design innovation to a real test in front of consumers.

The price of Apple’s foldable device is expected to reach $2,000 or more, coinciding with increases in the prices of other iPhone lineups, according to analysts, a price level that may test the extent of customers’ acceptance of these prices. The company is also expected to postpone the launch of the basic model of the “iPhone 18” phone until the spring of next year.

Foldable devices constitute about 2% of total smartphone sales globally, and the growth of this category has slowed significantly since Huawei and Samsung launched their first products in this field in 2019.

Apple is betting on its device’s ability to revive interest in a relatively specialized design, and help it capture a larger share of the market. (Erm News)
