
According to an update published by NASA on September 2, 2026, Dragonfly achieved an important engineering advance after installing the main electrical wiring harness on the vehicle’s chassis. These wires are an essential component of the rover, as they will transfer power and data between computers, sensors, motors, scientific instruments, and the battery, connecting the rover’s various systems together.
NASA explains that building an electrical system capable of operating on Titan represents a major challenge, due to the extremely cold environment there. That is why Dragonfly was designed with a thermal system similar to a “thermal bottle,” which retains the heat generated by the nuclear energy source inside the vehicle’s structure, and helps its systems operate in harsh conditions.
“Dragonfly” is scheduled to be launched in the summer of 2028, and will arrive on Titan in late 2034. Upon its arrival, the vehicle will not be satisfied with operating in one place, but will use its atmospheric system to move between multiple locations on the surface of the moon and study different terrains.
