US President Donald Trump announced that the United States will respond to the Iranian attack that targeted American forces in Jordan, vowing to deliver a “strong blow” to Iran.
Trump said that American forces were able to intercept all of the Iranian missiles except one, stressing that the missile that was not intercepted “did not pose a threat.”
The statements came after Iran launched ballistic missiles towards bases used by American forces in Jordan, in response to American strikes that targeted two missile launch sites on the Iranian Lark Island near the Strait of Hormuz. The Jordanian army said that it intercepted 8 missiles that penetrated the Kingdom’s airspace, without recording any casualties.
On Sunday, American forces carried out strikes on two Iranian launch pads on Lark Island, and Washington said they were linked to preparations to plant sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, in the first direct military confrontation between Washington and Tehran since late July.
Trump’s threat to respond comes in the wake of this direct exchange of attacks, amid anticipation of the nature of the next American military step.
