The Israeli police and the Shin Bet revealed a new security case in northern Israel, after the arrest of a minor and a young man suspected of pledging allegiance to ISIS and planning to carry out attacks targeting security forces at Al-Aqsa Mosque and an Israeli army base in the northern region.
According to a report by journalist Or Ravid on the Israeli “N12” website, the police and Shin Bet announced on Friday morning that indictments would be filed against a minor and a young man from the north, after investigations showed that they had pledged allegiance to ISIS and planned to target security forces.
In detail, at the beginning of the month, the authorities arrested a 16-year-old minor from Galilee, after it was found, according to the investigation, that he had established contact with parties linked to the organization and declared his allegiance to it.
Investigations revealed that the minor, in addition to pledging allegiance to the organization, began watching and searching on the Internet for content that included instructions for preparing explosive belts.
The investigation also concluded, according to the report, that he intended to carry out an attack targeting police and soldiers in Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Days after the arrest of the minor, the authorities arrested another suspect, Ibrahim Kaabiyya, 19 years old and a resident of Haifa, on suspicion that he had also pledged allegiance to ISIS.
Investigations showed, according to the police and the Shin Bet, that Kaabiyeh was planning to carry out an attack inside an Israeli army base in the northern region.
With the end of the investigation into the two on Friday morning, the Public Prosecution in the Haifa District is expected to submit indictments against them, in addition to a request to keep them in detention until the end of the judicial procedures.
The Israeli police and the Shin Bet stressed that they deal very seriously with any involvement of Israeli citizens in activities that would endanger the security of the state and its population, stressing that they will use all available means to pursue anyone who participates in activities of this kind.
Thus, the case once again opens the file of attempts to attract individuals inside Israel through extremist content on the Internet, especially in cases where digital monitoring moves from the stage of influence to practical planning of attacks.
