On Friday, US President Donald Trump re-published a photo of himself on his “Truth Social” platform in which he appears carrying a weapon, accompanied by the phrase “No more Mr. Nice Guy,” in a move that raised questions about whether its goal was escalation or deterrence towards Iran.
The republication of the image comes at a time of military tension between the United States and Iran, amid an exchange of limited strikes that has not yet developed into a comprehensive confrontation, in a scene described as a situation of “no peace, no war.”
Trump had published the image, generated by artificial intelligence, for the first time in early April 2026, and at that time accompanied it with direct threats to Iran, in which he said that Tehran was “incapable of controlling its behavior” and “does not know how to conclude a non-nuclear agreement,” warning that it would soon realize the seriousness of the situation.
The republication of the image takes on additional connotations in light of the current tension, as Trump appears in it carrying a weapon with drawings of explosions behind him, in a message that could be read as an affirmation of American military readiness, or a hint at the possibility of escalation if Tehran continues what Washington considers hostile behavior.
This also comes in light of previous American statements that talked about the American military missile industry operating at a high pace, according to what was previously announced by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
Terms borrowed from World War II, used by Trump and Hegseth in previous statements, also brought the discourse of military escalation back to the forefront, amid anticipation as to whether re-publishing the image falls within the framework of pressure on Iran through direct symbolic messages, or paves the way for a more heated phase in the region.
