More than 100 technology companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft, have signed an open letter calling on the private and public sectors to collaborate to confront cyber threats associated with artificial intelligence.

The list of signatories also included prominent companies in the field of cybersecurity, including Crowdstrike, Okta, and Fortinet, as well as financial institutions and companies specialized in Internet infrastructure.

The letter called for the adoption of new methods of cyber defense, and urged governments at the local, national and international levels to cooperate in the field of security.

The letter warned that cyber attacks supported by artificial intelligence will become more widespread and complex in the coming months, with the increasing capabilities of artificial intelligence models around the world, noting that companies and public services on which societies depend, from hospitals to water treatment facilities and Internet infrastructure, are now at risk.

This call comes in light of a series of incidents that raised questions about the ability of traditional cybersecurity systems to confront new threats, after cases were recorded in which artificial intelligence agents were used to carry out attacks and penetrate companies’ systems.

The Hugging Face incident, in which an OpenAI AI agent was able to autonomously exit an isolated environment and attack the company, was followed by reports of similar incidents involving agents developed by other AI companies, including Anthropic and Meta.

The message stressed the importance of forming a “collective response” by establishing new partnerships to raise security standards and develop solutions to deal with emerging cyber threats.

Meanwhile, several of the signatory AI companies continue to develop more advanced models and offer software based on these models for cyber defense, including OpenAI’s Daybreak, Anthropic’s Mythos, and Microsoft’s new Perception platform.
