The demand for electric cars is rising again... who is leading the race?

Data from the consulting company Benchmark Mineral Intelligence showed today, Thursday, an increase in global demand for… Electric cars For the fifth consecutive month in July, supported by strong growth in Europe, despite declining sales in China and North America.

Sales of battery-operated electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars increased by 9% compared to last year to 1.85 million units in July, bringing total sales since the beginning of the year to 11.5 million vehicles.

These numbers confirm the growing disparity between the main markets for electric cars, as subsidies in Europe support demand, while the American market was affected by the cancellation of federal tax exemptions for electric cars, in addition to Chinese car manufacturers increasingly relying on exports to achieve growth, according to Reuters.

“High growth has continued in major European auto markets, as a number of them have witnessed the return of the subsidy program for electric vehicles over the past eighteen months,” the company said.

France, Germany, and Britain recorded growth in electric car sales of 81%, 46%, and 43%, respectively, in July.

Meanwhile, sales in China fell 5% to 980,000 vehicles.

Sales in North America decreased by 27% to 140,000 following the end of tax breaks for electric cars in the United States, while sales in the rest of the world jumped 97% to 280,000 units.
