In a statement, the head of the Union of Ophthalmology and Bakeries in Lebanon called on Captain Nasser Sorour, in a statement, “the government was approved by an urgent financial advance devoted to building strategic roughs for storing wheat and grains in Beirut, Tripoli and Sidon, allowing Lebanon to secure a strategic stock sufficient for a period of no less than a full year.”

He pointed out that “this requirement comes in light of the complex security, military and political conditions witnessed by the world, especially the war between Russia and Ukraine, and they are among the most prominent international exporters of wheat and grains.”
Sorour warned that “negligence in this file constitutes a crime against Lebanon and its people, as the occurrence of any sudden crisis will make it difficult to find rapid and effective solutions.”
He stressed that “the existence of strategic roughs will contribute directly to the stability of the prices of wheat, flour and bread, enhancing Lebanon’s ability to face the fluctuations of prices resulting from climatic conditions and weather, providing the purchase of large quantities of grains when global prices are low, and storing them to secure the needs of the local market.”
He added: “This requirement is not new. The union has previously raised it repeatedly to the governments and ministries concerned, but he did not find until today the required response.”
He concluded: “Whoever is interested in people and the people does not sleep and his country without preventive measures, for the mills, with their current capabilities, is unable to store large quantities of wheat, and it is unable to face any emergency outside its will, therefore, the construction of signs is an urgent national step that cannot be postponed.”
