Meta has announced that it will soon start using the user’s conversations data with artificial intelligence chat robots in order to enhance the targeting and customization of ads on its various platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

According to the company, this step will enter into force on December 16, with a dead person to send notifications inside applications and email messages to users starting from October 7 to inform them of change, and Meta explained that the update will be applied in most regions of the world, with the exception of the European Union and South Korea in the first stage.

Mita gave an illustrative example: If a user spoke with an artificial intelligence robot about a hobby such as mountain walk.

“People’s conversations will simply be an additional part of the inputs that help in customizing the content and ads that appear in their pages.”

Although targeting ads by tracking user activity online is not new, the introduction of personal conversations with artificial intelligence robots in this context is a controversial step, as it was not previously used to use direct conversations as a tool to direct ads.

The new feature does not allow the option to withdraw, according to a report published by the Wall Street Journal, which means that anyone talking to smart dead robots will use their data automatically for advertising purposes.

Nevertheless, Meta confirmed that her robots will not collect sensitive data such as religious beliefs, sexual trends, political opinions, health information, ethnic or philosophical, or membership in unions, but she advised users to avoid sharing this sensitive information in their talks with chat robots.

Meta believes that this step enhances its capabilities to customize the experience of use through its platforms, but at the same time it raises renewed concerns about privacy, and users remember that artificial intelligence robots are not “friends” as some might think, but rather are data -oriented tools.
