The Axios news website revealed today, Friday, that US President Donald Trump is planning to hold an international summit that will bring together a number of leaders to discuss the Gaza file, during his upcoming visit to Egypt.
According to four informed sources reported by the site, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will organize the summit, and he has already begun communicating with a number of European and Arab leaders to extend official invitations.
The summit is expected to include leaders or foreign ministers from: Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Indonesia, according to the same sources.
Axios reported that the international summit on Gaza will be held on Tuesday morning, with the possibility of moving it to next Monday, according to informed sources.
The summit will be held in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh, where a ceasefire agreement was reached between Hamas and Israel through Qatari-Egyptian-Turkish mediation.
As for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, an American official indicated that he would not attend the summit, while American officials confirmed that President Donald Trump would participate in it, while the White House refused to comment on that.
The website explained that the goal of the summit is to mobilize international support for Trump’s peace plan in Gaza, especially since some issues are still pending between Hamas and Israel, such as issues of governance, security, and reconstruction.
According to the website, Trump is scheduled to travel to Israel on Monday morning, where he will speak before the Knesset and meet with the families of the hostages, before heading to Egypt to meet with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and participate in the signing ceremony of the first phase of his plan to end the war.
