A chain of burger restaurants in the US state of Texas, which became famous after being named after President Donald Trump, has closed its doors after the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department arrested its owner, who is Lebanese.

Roland Benny, owner of Trump Burger, which has branches throughout Texas, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement earlier this year after overstaying his 2019 visa, which was scheduled to expire in 2024.

The Houston Business Journal noted that it visited the location twice this week during peak hours, but found the restaurant’s neon sign down, with a “Closed” sign on its closed front doors, and found the small parking lot deserted.

The newspaper pointed out that “the future of the chain is now hanging in the balance,” due to the network of legal challenges related to Benny’s arrest, while a spokesman for the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service said that the owner of the restaurant chain does not enjoy any immigration benefits that would prevent him from being arrested or deported from the country.

Roland Benny was arrested on May 16 and placed under immigration procedures, and on June 13 he was released on bail pending clarification of the procedures.

“Despite false claims to the contrary, Roland Mahrez Benny has no immigration benefits that would prevent his arrest or removal from the United States,” US Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement.

Benny is a 28-year-old illegal immigrant from Lebanon who entered the United States in 2019 as a nonimmigrant visitor, but did not leave by February 12, 2024, as required under the terms of his entry.
