Representative Asaad Dergham considered, today, Monday, that “what is reported from US President Donald Trump regarding his love for Lebanon and his desire to see it calm and prosperous is not enough to protect it from Israeli threats,” stressing the need for Lebanon to do what is required of it internationally and in the Arab world to maintain its stability.

In an interview with “Voice of All Lebanon,” he pointed out that “President Trump’s speeches were clear and show that there are conditions required of Lebanon, most notably the exclusivity of weapons in the hands of the Lebanese state,” stressing that “this demand is not new, and it is supported internationally, Arab, and Gulf, and has begun to gain Lebanese consensus even within basic components of the political equation.”

Dergham warned against “transferring the Israeli aggression from Gaza to Lebanon,” noting that “the destruction and displacement that Gaza is witnessing today after the implementation of a clear American plan requires the Lebanese to draw lessons and take responsible steps to avoid Lebanon sliding toward a similar fate.”

He also pointed out that “Lebanon is excluded from regional and international summits, the most recent of which is the Sharm El-Sheikh summit, despite it being one of the countries most affected by the war going on between Israel and Hamas,” considering that “the war brought Lebanon into the support equation, and exposed it to great risks without it having an effective role.”
