The Minister of Economy and Trade, Amer Al -Bassat, hosted at the Ministry’s headquarters representatives of donor countries and international organizations, in a special meeting to present the most prominent achievements to this day, reviewing current efforts, setting priorities for support, in addition to offering upcoming projects and initiatives, and drawing a clear vision for the future of the Lebanese economy.
The meeting was attended by ambassadors of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Japan, as well as representatives of the embassies of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Kuwait and Switzerland. Pioneering international institutions, including the European Union, the European Investment Bank, World Food Program, International Monetary Fund, United Nations Development Program, ESCWA, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Minister Al -Bassat opened the meeting, welcome to attend, and expressed his appreciation for the continuous support of international partners. He expressed cautious optimism about the Lebanese economy’s path, noting that “the country has been witnessing its best economic performance since 2011, with a growth of 5% during the current year.” Minister Al -Bassat said: “Since the government received its duties, we have taken basic steps towards restoring economic stability. After the approval of the banking confidentiality law and the law of restructuring the banking sector, and currently working to prepare the financial gap law, we are still steadfast in our commitment to addressing economic challenges and progress towards an agreement with the International Monetary Fund.” During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the achievements and plans of the Ministry through seven basic axes: “Beirutone” for investment: to highlight Lebanon as a regional investment destination and attract global partners. Supporting small and medium enterprises: to enhance its role in creating job opportunities and building a flexible economy. Implementation of the competition law: to consolidate transparency and encourage investment through fair markets. Foreign trade policy: to increase Lebanon’s integration into global markets And diversification of exports. Partnership commitment
Representatives of donor countries and international organizations also renewed their commitment to support the path of recovery and reform in Lebanon, and they affirmed their willingness to work alongside the ministry to advance the joint priorities. Minister Al -Bassat concluded the meeting, stressing “the importance of cooperation”, and said: “The recovery of Lebanon depends on joint efforts. With the support of our partners, we will continue to build momentum, restore confidence, and consolidate the foundations of sustainable growth.”
