Representative Adeeb Abdel -Masih wrote through his account on the “X” platform: “A call to preserve the health of the Lebanese: a healthy risk and we demand immediate and comprehensive move. Whoever raises the country from the site of responsibility, I ask today – as a deputy – from the government and all concerned authorities to pay attention to what I see as a healthy danger that ravages Lebanon. Data appears to be a significant increase in the rates of deaths between 1990 And 2023, this is not a position to spoil, but an invitation to facts and procedures.
I put before ministers: health, environment, economy, energy, industry, and defense, and before them the judiciary and security forces, a short list of practical observations and requirements that I demand to take immediately – all of them are linked to the corruption file that I will make the title of my campaign to protect people: possible and legitimate reasons (not exclusively): 1. High military attacks in some areas and their environmental and healthy impact; I do not rule out the need to investigate the possibility of dangerous pollutants or radioactive materials that result from confrontations. So I ask the Ministry of Health and the management of its laboratories to take comprehensive environmental samples of soil, water and air in all Lebanese territories for in -depth examination. 2. The waste crisis and the burning of random dumps, from which dangerous pollutants are emitted to groundwater and crops – as a result of administrative inaction and corruption in the sector management. 3. Sanitation networks, spoilers and pollutants and the accompanying scents and diseases, as a result of mismanagement and actual control. 4. Unorganized electricity generators, industrial emissions from unlikely facilities, quarries and crushers that pollute air – as a result of control and sometimes collusion with actors. 5. Trading spoiled or adulterated foods by some merchants or food facilities that seek to profit at the expense of public health. 6. Vehicles and mechanisms that do not conform to the specifications of air pollution due to the absence of a strict application of emissions standards. Plant pollution and the emergence of diseases in crops such as our olives as a result of the accumulation of industrial waste, agricultural practices, drilling waste and the transport of harmful materials. 8. Illegal disposal of medical waste by some hospitals, exposing society to bacterial and epidemic risks. 9. The economic deterioration that forced a wide segment of an unhealthy food and a lifestyle that negatively affects public health indicators (obesity, lack of activity, bad nutrition). 10. The long psychological and social effects of successive crises that weaken public immunity and are reflected in health indicators. Immediate and clear demands:
– Launching an immediate and transparent judicial investigation into the reasons for the increase in cancer rates, with the spread of its stages and results. The quarries and feeding generators, and obligate them to install emissions measuring devices and publishing periodic reports.- Control campaigns on markets and food institutions, and imposing strict penalties on cheaters.- Organizing free medical examinations for the most exposed communities, in cooperation with the Medical and University Hospitals Syndicate.- Including this file within the priorities of the judiciary and regulatory bodies to prevent impunity from the impunity that exacerbates the disaster Health. A national program for awareness, nutrition and physical activity devotes to it a portion of social support for weak groups. I will immediately communicate with the Medical Syndicate in the north to coordinate practical steps (tests, field studies, health conferences), and I will put the file on the fire of the judiciary and the media for the speed of movement. I will not close the door to any independent scientific or international investigation that contributes to reaching the truth and protecting people. It is not my goal to spread fear, but credibility and work. Health is not a commodity sacrificed for immediate gains or narrow interests. Life, dignity and public health are above all considerations, and there is no value for any development or money if we lose our children and generations. I invite everyone to solidarity, accountability and immediate action. ”
