On Monday, September 29, 2025, the General Directorate of State Security, headed by Major General Edkkar Londes, launched the “State Security Forest” project in the Al -Shouf Cedar – Baroque Rice Forest, on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the Directorate. The project included planting forty rice trees in honor of four decades of continuous efforts for state security.
The opening was attended by the representative of the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Samer Zubian, the mayor of Baroque – Al -Faridis, Dr. Fadi Mahmoud, and members of the Municipal Council, along with the reserve team, officers, and a number of official and local personalities. The ceremony included the displacement of an introductory plate at the entrance to the forest and an introductory tour of the protected activities, its management methods and the surrounding environment, before moving to the municipality headquarters. The mayor praised the great role of state security led by Major General Laonds in fighting corruption, stabilizing security and restoring the confidence of citizens. For his part, Major General Laonds stressed the Directorate’s commitment to maintaining environmental security alongside the army and other security services, stressing that “state security has become at the heart of the Chouf and that the Chouf is at the heart of the state’s security.” The representative of the Ministry of Agriculture indicated that environmental protection is one of the pillars of national security, explaining the depth of the partnership between the reserve and security institutions. The ceremony was concluded with the exchange of honorary shield and gifts between Major General Londs and Dr. Mahmoud, followed by a cocktail party to celebrate the occasion.
