In Lebanon, the phrase “God heal you” has become daily hesitating about the tongues of people, as an expression of constant anxiety of poisoning, diseases, and viruses that kill us and our relatives. The health reality in the country has become disturbing, as water is polluted, vegetables and fruits are unsafe. In light of this situation, how will citizens be healthy in a country that lacks basic health ingredients?
A while ago, the World Health Organization (WHO), in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health, conducted a study that showed that 60% of river water in Lebanon contains high levels of E. coli bacteria, which is bacteria that indicate water pollution with human or animal stools, which makes it unsuitable for drinking or irrigation without treatment and increases the risk of intestinal diseases. But, the most serious thing today, according to recent studies, is high cancer rates in Lebanon. The Lancet Medical Magazine has published a comprehensive study that included 204 countries, and it evokes the rates of infection and deaths from 47 types of cancer between 1990 and 2023. The study, which was prepared by more than two thousand researchers, indicated that cancer has become the second cause of death globally after cardiovascular disease. After correcting the results according to the age factor, it was found that Lebanon recorded the highest increase in each of the cases and deaths within 33 years by 80%, and occupied the first place globally with cancer rates. On his part, the Minister of Health, Dr. Rakan Nasser Al -Din, revealed in previous statements that the ministry spent about 7 million US dollars on cancer drugs, describing the situation as frightening. According to observers and health experts, environmental pollution is one The most prominent factors affecting the high rates of cancer in Lebanon. Electric generators smoke from which harmful gases affect the respiratory system and increase the risk of infection with different types of cancer, while the absence of health control allows the spread of harmful substances in food and water without strict follow -up. Also, water pollution as a result of the drainage of industrial and home waste raises the risk of developing chronic diseases and cancer. Also, the use of chemicals in Agriculture, such as pesticides and artificial fertilizers, leaves traces on vegetables and fruits that may be carcinogenic when exposed to long -term exposure. In addition, the garbage that is stacked in the roads and factories operating without suitable filters causes chemical pollutants in the air and soil, while unrighteous food, such as meat sold without quality examination, may contain harmful substances that increase the risk of cancer. Lebanon, the country that has always been characterized by art, culture and repeated achievements, today it leads the list of the most suffering countries from the most dangerous Diseases. Daily, we hear urgent claims to develop a plan that limits catastrophic pollution that threatens the health of citizens and their lives are lost without any result. How long will the citizen continue to pay the bill for the state and its ministries to carry out its duties?
