Local media reported that former Sri Lankan President Raniel Vekrimsenji was transferred to the hospital a day after he was arrested on charges of misuse of public funds during his tenure. The police said that Vikirmsenji, 76, who led the island state in South Asia during a devastating economic crisis, was arrested on Friday.


Rokshan Pillana, director of the Colombo National Hospital, told reporters that Vikirminggi was transferred the next day to the hospital’s emergency department after being subjected to complications caused by dehydration, diabetes and high blood pressure. He added that Vicrimenji was later transferred to the intensive care department, where his condition was stabilized. None of the Vikrimsinji office or hospital on Sunday for Reuters requests to comment on email about his transfer to the hospital.
