According to press information, today, Sunday, France asked to postpone the vote on the extension of the UNIFIL forces operating in Lebanon until August 29, after it was scheduled for August 25.

The UN Security Council had recently started discussing a draft resolution submitted by France to extend the mandate of the United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) for one year, according to “France Press”.
The French draft decision extends the UNIFIL state until August 31, 2026 and also includes a paragraph in which the Security Council expresses its “determination to work for the withdrawal of” this international force in order for the Lebanese government to become “the only guarantor of security in southern Lebanon.”
It is noteworthy that the state of UNIFIL ends this month, and it is supposed to vote to renew its duties to remain in Lebanon.
