Baabda sources told “RED TV” that “there is no agreement yet on the names of the countries that will verify the disarmament of Hezbollah, and the names proposed are still being discussed.”
The sources stressed that “what was reported about Lebanon and Israel agreeing to nominate Britain, Italy, Switzerland and Indonesia to verify the disarmament of Hezbollah is not true.”
This denial comes after Reuters reported today, citing sources familiar with the negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, that Britain, Italy, Switzerland and Indonesia were proposed as potential countries to participate in the mechanism to verify Hezbollah’s disarmament, and that the discussions include the possibility of using foreign forces to verify that villages in southern Lebanon are free of weapons.
According to the “Reuters” report, the details of the proposed mechanism, including the nature of the mandate, the powers of the potential forces, and the scope of their movement, are still under discussion, while Baabda sources confirm to “RED TV” that talk of a final agreement between the four countries is not true yet.
