According to ESPN, Kushner and Iger were previously studying the possibility of creating a new team in Las Vegas, before they turned their attention to acquiring the Lakers from billionaire Mark Walter, who had bought a controlling stake in the club last year in a deal that estimated its value at about 10 billion dollars.
The deal still needs the approval of the NBA Board of Directors before it is officially completed, which procedures may take several weeks. Kushner and Iger affirmed their commitment to preserving the club’s legacy and competing at the highest level during the next stage.
Josh Kushner’s name returns to the sports forefront after his recent association with a huge investment project related to the commercial rights of the World Cup, as his name was among the potential investors in the “FIFA Forward Enterprise” project, whose value is estimated at about $20 billion, with the possibility of selling a share of up to 20% to private investors.
Kushner is 41 years old and is the founder of the investment company Thrive Capital. He is also the younger brother of Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.
His personal wealth is estimated at $3.6 billion, according to Forbes magazine.
