Bloomberg said, in a report, that the “circling glass” design is still part of Apple’s plans for 2027, noting that the company is moving to use glass extensively on the front and back sides of the phone, with it extending and bending around the edges, while a thin metal frame in the middle separates the two sides.
According to sources familiar with the company’s plans, Apple is working on new versions of the iPhone Pro that carry the codes V73 and V74 internally, and rely on glass in the front and back parts, with it extending to both sides of the device and a metal strip in the middle.
Bloomberg explained that Apple had actually studied a more advanced and bolder version of the design, which relied on a larger amount of glass, but abandoned it at an early stage in the development process.
This bolder design may be what was meant by recent reports that claimed that Apple had canceled the plan to launch an iPhone made entirely of glass on the occasion of the phone’s twentieth anniversary.
The “Bloomberg” report also indicated that the glass design is no longer linked to a new, separate model, as the latest leaks indicate that the design that relies heavily on glass will actually arrive in the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max models in the company’s phone series for the year 2027.
Thus, it seems that Apple is not backing down from its plan to radically redesign the iPhone in 2027, but it has abandoned the most extreme version of the glass design, while continuing to work on a design that uses glass more compared to current generations.
