New accusations against “Meta”… What is the relationship between “Instagram”?

Reuters indicated that lawyers from the US state of Tennessee told the jury in a court in Nashville on Monday that the leadership of the “Meta” company even ignored the company’s own research related to the impact of the “Instagram” platform on teenagers, in an effort to achieve maximum profit from young users.

This came during opening arguments in a seven-week trial before a state court in Tennessee, where state lawyers said that Meta researchers repeatedly indicated that some teens use the Instagram platform compulsively, leading to eating disorders, depression, and self-harm. Despite these warnings, Meta did not disable features such as autoplay, notifications, and endless scrolling of videos, which lawyers said were designed to keep teens on Instagram for as long as possible and increase the number of ads that appear. The lawsuit, filed by the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office, led by Jonathan Scrimetti, seeks fines against Meta and a court order directing Instagram to modify aspects of the platform that the state deems harmful to teens’ mental health.

On the other hand, Meta’s lawyer confirmed that “the company has been transparent about the risks that teenagers face on Instagram and the amount of dangerous content it finds, and that the company is doing its best to discover and solve the problems.”
