Olmo criticized the statements of Ayala, a member of the technical staff of the Argentine national team, saying that he tried to justify his behavior instead of taking responsibility. He said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper “Diari de Terrassa” that whoever claims remorse and then justifies his behavior by saying that it was just a reaction “may not actually be remorseful.”
Olmo added: “I did not say anything to him, so I do not need his apology,” pointing out that what determines a person’s character is not the mistake he commits, but rather his ability to admit it.
The Spanish national team player also stressed that winning the World Cup represents an exceptional feeling, stressing the importance of players being role models for new generations through the way they compete and behave on and off the field.
Ayala had defended himself earlier, stressing that he took responsibility for what happened, but he denied that the incident was a punch, explaining that it was just a “pushing,” and indicating that his reaction came after a comment from Olmo, and that he would apologize to him personally when the opportunity was available.
