Algerian defender Issa Mandi announced on Wednesday his retirement from international football, ending a career that spanned nearly 12 years with the Algerian national team.
Mandy, who recently joined the Spanish club Levante, posted a video message on his Facebook account, in which he said that it was time to bid farewell to the national team, expressing his pride in wearing the “Greens” shirt and playing 123 international matches, which is the record in the history of the Algerian national team.
During his international career, Mandy scored eight goals, contributed to Algeria winning the 2019 African Cup of Nations title, and also participated in the 2014 and 2026 World Cup finals.
The 34-year-old player confirmed that he is leaving the national team “with a clear conscience,” noting that he gave everything he had and spared no effort throughout the years of representing his country, thanking the fans, his teammates, and all the technical and administrative bodies.
The retirement announcement comes days after Mandy moved to Spanish club Levante with a contract extending until June 2028, coming from French club Lille, in preparation for a new challenge in the Spanish League.
